I used a loaf pan and the top was flat. Not sure if it's supposed to be different--but another good sign was that the cake wasn't compressed in the middle. I assumed that I didn't have to make changes because Madison lives at high altitude... But she has never responded. Sometimes I've had cookbook authors write me back, so I thought it worth a try.
